Le Fraysse village
France

Adam Khan Architects was appointed in 2009 to carry out a feasibility study to revitalise this under-populated mining village set in the rural south of France. The study focused on people’s actual experience of the village, existing urban fabric identity (including density and gardens) and the presence of the past.

From the research, a strategy was proposed so as to reinforce existing identities and to ensure a coherence in future developments. A few key spaces have been determined for which proposals have been detailed providing quality public realm spaces. The proposals focused on the careful placing of vital elements such as shade, freshness (water and vegetation), sitting places, water play. A key strategy is the engagement of inhabitants so as to increase ownership of public space and sociability.

We have now been invited to submit detailed proposals for the first project to be realised..
